Free Secure Vehicle Storage

Somewhere secure for your vehicle while it is inspected, repaired or written off, with the charges claimed from the at-fault insurer rather than from you.

Written by the claims team at PTH Claims · Free recovery, storage and replacement vehicles nationwide

The short answer

Your vehicle kept in a secure compound while the engineer inspects it, liability is settled, and repairs or a settlement are agreed.

You pay nothing, however long it takes. Storage accrues daily and we claim it from the at-fault driver’s insurer.

Why vehicles sit for weeks

Three things have to happen before a vehicle can be released, and each runs on somebody else’s timetable.

An engineer has to inspect it. Liability has to be established. Then either a repairer takes it in, or a total loss settlement is agreed and the salvage collected.

That is why vehicles routinely sit for three to six weeks, and considerably longer where liability is disputed.

What you would normally be charged - and what you pay us

Storage is charged daily, and the daily rate is what catches people out. At £25 a day, six weeks builds over £1,000 before recovery and release fees.

Here is what it typically looks like against what you pay with us:

ChargeTypical providerPTH Claims
Recovery from the scene £150 - £350 FREE
Secure storage, per day £15 - £40 FREE
Replacement vehicle, per day £40 - £150 FREE
Total cost to you Often four figures £0

Terms and conditions apply. Typical provider figures are industry ranges and vary by provider, location and circumstances. All claims are subject to identity, fraud and anti-money laundering checks.

With PTH Claims that figure is zero. We carry the cost and recover it from the at-fault driver’s insurer. It never reaches you, and it never depends on how your claim ends.

Charges already running?

The sooner we take it over, the less there is to argue about later.

Where people get caught out

You signed for it yourself

If you signed a recovery firm’s paperwork, you owe them and have to reclaim it afterwards.

Nobody is pushing the claim

Charges keep running while insurers argue. Without someone chasing, a vehicle can sit for months.

The period is judged unreasonable

You have a duty to keep losses reasonable. Four months in storage when four weeks would do may not be recoverable in full.

Common questions

For as long as the claim reasonably requires - through inspection, the liability decision and repair or settlement. We push to keep that period as short as possible.

Not where PTH Claims arranged it. The charges sit with us and are recovered from the at-fault insurer. If you signed a recovery firm’s paperwork yourself, that is different.

Vehicles are kept in secure compounds. Please remove personal belongings promptly, as we cannot be responsible for property left inside.

Yes. Tell us what you need and we will arrange access.

The vehicle goes to a repairer, or the salvage is collected on a total loss. Either way we handle the release.

Terms, fraud and anti-money laundering

Terms and conditions apply to all services described on this page. Free recovery, storage and replacement vehicles are provided on the basis that the charges are recovered from the at-fault party’s insurer. We will explain the terms in plain English before anything is arranged.

Before we act for you we are required to verify your identity and to carry out fraud and anti-money laundering checks. This may include checks with credit reference and fraud prevention agencies, which will leave a record on your file.

Where fraud is suspected, information may be shared with fraud prevention agencies, insurers and law enforcement. Providing false or misleading information in support of a claim may mean your claim is refused, and can be a criminal offence.
