Motorcycle Accident Claims

Riders come off worse in almost every collision. Here is what you can claim beyond the bike itself.

Written by the claims team at PTH Claims · Free recovery, storage and replacement vehicles nationwide

The short answer

You claim for the bike, your riding gear and any injury, and you can have a replacement while yours is off the road.

Riding gear is the part most often forgotten. Helmets, leathers, gloves and boots are all claimable if they were damaged.

What is different about a motorcycle claim

A car driver walks away from an impact a rider does not. Injuries tend to be more serious, and there is a whole category of loss that car claims never involve - your protective equipment.

A helmet that has taken an impact must be replaced even if it looks undamaged. The same goes for armour in a jacket. Do not throw any of it away before it has been photographed and recorded.

What you can claim

The motorcycle

Repair, or its pre-accident value where it is written off.

Riding gear

Helmet, leathers, gloves, boots and armour damaged in the collision.

A replacement

A bike or other vehicle while yours is off the road.

Loss of earnings

Time off work, which for riders is often longer.

What you would normally be charged - and what you pay us

These charges are rarely explained up front, and the first many people hear about the daily rate is when an invoice arrives.

Here is what they typically look like against what you pay with us:

ChargeTypical providerPTH Claims
Recovery from the scene £150 - £350 FREE
Secure storage, per day £15 - £40 FREE
Replacement vehicle, per day £40 - £150 FREE
Total cost to you Often four figures £0

Terms and conditions apply. Typical provider figures are industry ranges and vary by provider, location and circumstances. All claims are subject to identity, fraud and anti-money laundering checks.

With PTH Claims that figure is zero. We carry the cost and recover it from the at-fault driver’s insurer. It never reaches you, and it never depends on how your claim ends.

Common questions

Yes. A helmet that has taken an impact should be replaced regardless of how it looks, and that is a recognised head of claim. Keep it rather than binning it.

Yes, or another vehicle if that suits you better while yours is off the road. Tell us what you need to keep going.

Not seeing a motorcycle is not a defence. Failing to look properly is one of the most common findings of fault in these cases.

Enormously. Download and back it up immediately, before it is overwritten.

Claimable if you can evidence them. Receipts, photographs and fitting invoices all help establish the value.

Terms, fraud and anti-money laundering

Terms and conditions apply to all services described on this page. Free recovery, storage and replacement vehicles are provided on the basis that the charges are recovered from the at-fault party’s insurer. We will explain the terms in plain English before anything is arranged.

Before we act for you we are required to verify your identity and to carry out fraud and anti-money laundering checks. This may include checks with credit reference and fraud prevention agencies, which will leave a record on your file.

Where fraud is suspected, information may be shared with fraud prevention agencies, insurers and law enforcement. Providing false or misleading information in support of a claim may mean your claim is refused, and can be a criminal offence.
